The City of Las Vegas Museum and Rough Rider Memorial Collection opened in 1961 as a unit of the City of Las Vegas. The Museum is housed in the historic Municipal Building, a 1940 Works Progress Administration project. The museum collection includes over 7,000 items relating to the heritage of the Las Vegas area. Many items may be viewed through our online collection catalog. The Museum offers educational opportunities through classroom visits and activities. Entertaining and informative programs for all ages are offered throughout the year.

While the Las Vegas Citizens' Committee for Historic Preservation (CCHP) is focused primarily on preserving and advocating for the preservation of local historic structures, CCHP also provides a variety of events which focus on local history.

CCHP offers weekly speakers through its "Glimpses of the Past" program, tours of local historic structures and neighborhoods, and annual events such as the Las Vegas Heritage Week. The website offers an events calendar, the committee's newsletter, virtual tours of Las Vegas, and information about the CCHP.

This historic retail corridor into the Old Town Plaza is one of New Mexico's most beautifully preserved and undiscovered outdoor architectural museums.

Montezuma Castle

Originally a premier railroad resort hotel, then Jesuit monestary, the castle was restored by Armand Hammer and is the U.S. location for the international United World College.

Pecos National Park

In the midst of piñon, juniper, and ponderosa pine woodlands in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains not far from Santa Fe, the remains of an Indian pueblo stand as a meaningful reminder of a people who once prevailed here. Now a national historical park demonstrates to modern visitors the cultural exchange and geographic facets central to the rich history of the Pecos Valley.

Fort Union National Monument

​ Exposed to the wind, within a sweeping valley of short grass prairie, amid the swales of the Santa Fe Trail, lie the territorial-style adobe remnants of the largest 19th century military fort in the region. For forty years, 1851-1891, Fort Union functioned as an agent of political and cultural change, whether desired or not, in New Mexico and throughout the Southwest.
